SSD-Z

SSD-Z 16.0 beta

Free
Know everything about your Solid State Drives and other disk types

16.09.09 (See all)

If you want to know all about your Solid State Drive or any other drive installed on your computer, SSD-Z offers you a free solution to find out in seconds not only the make or model of your SSD, but also its S.M.A.R.T. status, specific details about the existing partitions, etc. Though still in beta version and with a limited database that grows via the users’ submissions, SSD-Z is an excellent free alternative to other similar tools.

The program requires no installation – just click on the .exe file and SSD-Z will read and display all the available info in its tiny tabbed interface. The first tab is about the device itself, showing the device name and model, the firmware, the serial number, its NAND chips technology (when available), its interface, ATA standard, and many other interesting data that technicians will surely find useful.

The second tab displays all the S.M.A.R.T. attributes and their values, so you don’t have to launch your computer’s setup to know the true state of your SSD and other drives. The third refers to your disk’s partitions, and the fourth will provide benchmark IOPS regarding read and write times and other useful data when implemented. Being still in beta version, you will find that other features are also still in development phase, and the developers themselves warn users beforehand about possible inaccuracies in the information provided (especially regarding the S.M.A.R.T. status of your hard drives).

The interface includes a tab for the users to submit all the info available about their drives to the program’s database to help in building a larger and more reliable one. As SSD-Z requires nearly no system resources and is a completely free tool, I don’t see any harm in having it stored on your computer. You will learn a lot about your computer’s drives in no time and will give you the opportunity to contribute to an interesting project that will surely help others to find out about the real status of their SSDs at no cost.
